Analytical Workload Measurement

Analytical workload measurements are performed early in the design phase of system development. All three of the previously described methods are empirical techniques that require an "operator-in-the-loop." By contrast, analytical methods do not. These analyses are based on expert assessments, detailed cognitive task analyses, and computer modeling techniques. They are used to determine cognitive load in proposed tasks in new system development. Findings from analytical workload measurements are confirmed, using prototypes and simulators with an "operator-in-the-loop." Empirical measures are employed in this subsequent evaluation process.
