The previous section covered some of the capabilities and limitations shared by humans.  However, within these capabilities and limitations, individuals differ markedly.  This section describes how these differences are measured, analyzed, and used in product and system design.  To illustrate this concept of variability, we have chosen anthropometrics and biomechanics, although humans vary across all sense modalities and cognitive abilities, as well as physical attributes.
